Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick bread preferably day-old, sturdy bread
  • 1 cup milk I used soy
  • 3 tbsp plain flour helps mixture coat the bread
  • 2 tbsp Liquid Chai
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil for frying
Optional Toppings
  • maple syrup, fruit, dusting of cinnamon sugar

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Frying pan / skillet
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups / spoons
  • Shallow dish for dipping bread
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, flour, Liquid Chai, vanilla extract, and salt.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, coating both sides well. Let it soak for a few seconds so it absorbs the flavour.
  3. Heat coconut oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Place soaked bread slices into the pan and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  5. Serve warm with your favourite toppings — maple syrup, fruit, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.

Notes

Bread choice: Thick-cut bread (like sourdough, brioche, or challah) works best as it holds the chai mixture without going soggy.
Vegan option: Stick with plant-based milk (soy, almond, oat all work well) and fry in coconut oil for a fully vegan version.
Batch scaling: Double or triple the recipe easily — just keep the ratio of milk to chai the same (1 cup milk : 2 tbsp Liquid Chai).
Toppings: Fresh berries, caramelised banana, or a dollop of coconut yoghurt all pair beautifully with the chai-spiced flavours.

We hope you enjoy making this Chai-Spiced French Toast as much as we do! If you give it a try, we’d love to see your creations — share a photo and tag us on Instagram @liquidchai so we can celebrate your cosy breakfast moments together.
